Vergesst Aachen - Köln - Frankfurt (A4 – A3), nehmt Aachen - Koblenz (A4 – A61)

A63? Meinst du die A61? Das überrascht mich, weil ich da eher langsam vorangekommen bin. Allerdings bin ich ganz im Norden gestartet, vielleicht nimmt der Verkehr weiter im Süden zu.

Ich denke die A3 geht besser und ich würde die auch der A61 vorziehen, doch wenn man von der A4 kommt, ist es recht schwer auf die A3 zu kommen.

Bin erst Gesternabend wieder ruckgekommen meine Winterferien in Polen und Slowakei, mit die wunderbare Natur, ruhe und Madels dort... (sollst mal in Spisska Nova Ves im Tio Bar tanzen gehen :) :)

Hitchhiking from Rasthof Frechen to the east is simply not so easy. The motorway leads to metropolis Köln and from the ring around the city drivers may follow some six motorways out of town. I may imagine that A4 > A3 south may be one of the more difficult ones.

In 2006 I also needed two hours to get away from Frechen, while I could choose directions NE (Magdeburg) or E (Olpe, Giessen), at late morning. From Frechen towards Magdeburg should be easy, as it is the main road between Brussels / Paris and Berlin. A4 > A3 is really less logic for long distance traffic and as there is not so much Germany west of Frechen, there is just not too much medium distance (up to 400 km) in Frechen. Or so.

Sunday hitchhiking from Würzburg to Eindhoven I got a ride from Rasthof Würzburg (A3) to Arnhem, and with destination Eindhoven I decided to get off already halfway that ride at Rasthof Siegburg (A3), the last one before A3 > A4. After all the route Siegburg-Frechen-MG-Venlo-Eindhoven or also Siegen-Frechen-Aachen-Heerlen-Eindhoven would be shorter distance and avoiding the hardcore Ruhrgebiet with its lower driving speeds. After 2 hrs I finally accepted a ride to Amsterdam over Arnhem (but changed to Nijmegen on the way as the navigation system adviced different route with less traffic). Also in my case I found three cars AC and one MG on Siegburg, thus A3 > A4, but they did not want to take me, and one of the drivers (three people, big car, religious fish symbol) I posed the question in which part of Europe Aachen is situated; returning from Poland or Slovakia or other Central European / former Eastblock countries drivers and other people in the former BRD and every piece land west of it appears to be bitter, indifferent and cold.

Frechen direction west to Aachen or Mönchengladbach/Venlo seems a good one to me, also later on the day.

But Alex, if you destination is Frankfurt I do not understand too much why you would stick to the A4 > A3 in stead of A4 > A61, other than that I do very well understand that from Maastricht / Aachen it is a lot easier to get a ride to Köln than to Koblenz, so that it is easy to end up in the Frechener Pitfall.

Alternative would be to hitch into Köln or Bonn, but it would be pretty hard to plan that and to get to the good spot out (as I understand Hitchbase there is no really good spot to HH out of Köln towards Frankfurt).

Nah, in this case I prefer Groote Bleek service area on the A2 just south of Eindhoven ;). Hahahaha :D. The best out of the worst…

To hh Maastricht-Frankfurt over Koln, you can try the following. Get a lift to Verteilerkreis Koln. There hh to Bonn. From Bonn use public transport to get to service station on the A3.

Frechen is good for everything, except going on the A3 south. Going south via the A4, I do not like too much. Somehow the crossing Giessen is not easily to take from all directions... Surely, it would be a possibility to go on to the Verteilerkreis Köln (I thought about it, but it was getting dark and I didn't have the right descriptions), but I think the better option is still not to end up there and take a lift from Aachener Land on the A61. :)

Passing Giessen is not too bad. I did it a few times, in both north-south-directions (A7-A5 and A45-A5) and I never had any problems. Actually, the A45 is very great, as it connects Frankfurt with the Ruhrgebiet. Means, there are less trucks but much more cars - great for fast hitching.

ok, thats really no problem. but the mayor problem is to get from gießen a5 to limburg or koblenz. then you have to take the bundesstraße and really nobody wants to take me from the rasthof reinhardshain to koblenz!
