At the Dutch A2-petrol station Meiberg near Meiberg I've hitched perhaps twice without troubles. The last time I wanted to go for a hike and iceskating and I kindly asked staff in the motorway restaurant there if I could leave my main luggage in a safe place with them. They were very helpful, and my luggage was stored in a small administration room.
