I do basicly hitch around the year, however in the winter months, notably from November till the end of March, I do hitch less. However, for nine years in a row I am on winter holidays during either Christmas or around New Year. The last three years I did that by hitchhiking, from Maastricht twice to Poland and once to Slovakia (through Poland).

On 11, 12, 13 and 14 January I hitched the legs Slovak Paradise > Bratislava > Würzburg > Eindhoven > ‘s-Hertogenbosch. It was quite a little endurance and I got a cold. Especially on a service station near Nijmegen the wind had a firm grip on my throat.

After that I’ve hitched just twice – once to the office 7 km and once from Liege (B) to Maastricht (NL). In the weekend of 29 and 30 March – the start of summer time – I may go for a 250 kilometres of hitching.

Hitchhiking in winter is a different piece of cake…
