Official hitchhiking spot The Hage

There is an official hitchhiking spot in The Hague at the road “Boslaan” which then leads to the beginning of the A12 (Den Haag – Utrecht – Arnhem). There is a photo of the spot here…

I have used the thumb on the little traffic sign for the design of a couple of small banners for my website Hitchhiking in the Netherlands.

This week I was on the spot for a moment, and I saw two things. First, there had been punt some BIG stickers on the traffic sign, making it unreadable. Second, the pole had been replaced. On the photo it is standing on the sidewalk, right next to the road. Now it stands just in the grass field, right (or south) of the sidewalk. The bus stop sign (yellow) which you can see behind the dog :) has been placed there where the hitchhiking traffic sign used to stand...

I want to inform the municipality of The Hague of this with the form at http://www.denhaag.nl/smartsite.html?id=49813
(damaged traffic signs).

That’s all that I would like to do. I am pretty much involved, but I do not feel responsible for keeping governments alert. Does anyone have suggestions?

What do you mean?

What do you mean? I do not understand the point you want to make.

Is there actually still the "liftersplaats" sign? I can not remember to have seen it the last couple of times I started my trip there... I do remember the bus sign, as I left my sign behind on it..

I mean that there are

I mean that there are stickers on the sign and it has been placed just behind the sidewalk, in the grass, and has become pretty inrecognisable as a hh-spot indicating sign. A sign makes the difference between an official spot and a random spot.

And so only the spots in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Nijmegen, Groningen and Maastricht would remain, where Leeuwarden, Enschede and The Hague have been lost or receded, and the same could happen in Maastricht as it seems. It seems it is going downhill with the "reknown" official hitchhiking spots in this "tolerant" and "open" country the Netherlands... and nobody cares, despite the miserable state of the environment, current strikes in the public transport sector and the recent rise of fuel prices*.

* although the hard reality is that the price corrected for inflation of fuel has only risen with 20% since 1970, and thus it seems clear that the environment is going to face more hard times... (even cleaner technologies do not make traffic more silent).

I see...

No idea, I guess writing and lobbying... Strange, I think I never saw the sign in Den Haag...

Also I really wonder what

Also I really wonder what has happened regarding the hitchhiking spot campaign in Potsdam. The website doesn't exist anymore (http://potsdam.moonsword.info/index.html.en) and I haven't heard anymore about the outcome. Anyone knows?
