French tip to hitchhike France
Hello,
As a French guy, I would like to give you a tip to hitchhike in France
at the moment. Our government passed a law saying that all car drivers
have to buy a flashy yellow waistcoast and keep it inside their car.
>From my point of view, the true goal of this law is only to make money
and pretend that government takes care of something. Reality of
statistics shows that most of car accidents are caused by alcool and
speed ... not really by people changing a wheel on the motorway
without a yellow waistcoat.
Anyway, the interesting detail for hitchhikers is that many
supermarkets in France cannot respond to the huge demand of drivers.
Many drivers have to wait to get their waistcoast but these drivers
are worried about the fine of 135 euros. So, if a hitchhiker is able
to find one of this yellow waistcoast, it can be used as a sign to
hitchhike and catch a ride ... you can add a text like "J'en ai un !
(= I've got one !)
I hope it may help

I forgot ...

The law has been applied since the beginning of July but the police
will start to give fines only from the beginning of october.
The article I read is illustrated by a funny text : "Tenue correcte
exigée" (which means like "only smoking suit" in front of posh
bars...).
